Fuori Gioco
interactive installation, 2007
videoprojection, java, XML parsing, max/msp/jitter
It's an interactive environment and a self-growing archive: in the installation space some news are displayed in a popular internet format called RSS. RSS is an acronym of “Really Simple Syndication” and represents a system of distribution of news, based on XML, coming out of websites and of online dailies.
The aim of the project is to monitor and visualize in real time the flows of news relating to the matter of denied childhood. If the amount of news and the duration of the user visiting the space are over a certain amount, a part of it are being read by a little girl.
The program associates each consonant and vowel of the text at the same time with a corresponding sound and an image representing a little girl’s face, photographed while pronouncing a character of the alphabet. If the text was not read and listened at the same time, the user could understand the meaning of a word or a whole sentence only in patches. So, in order to correctly understand the content of the text, the user is forced to summon up his patience and attention.
After all, the same that usually children require.
